SKINNER SCHOOL FORUM NEWS
A Word from the President:
(click here to view Restructured Dates)

Is it that time already? School’s starting? Ohmigosh. What happened to my summer vacation? What happened to that new Umberto Eco novel I was going to read on the beach? How about that symphony I was going to catch at the Pritzker Band shell? And did I totally miss out on Jazz in June at Ravinia? How about the Jazz Fest, did I miss that too? Yes, I missed out. All of those wonderful things I had planned for the summer, all gone by the wayside. I did run into a few superstars over the summer, at the beach, at Great America, in various meeting spots. But my oh my is it good to be back in school. I missed my extended Skinner Family. I missed the dish in the hallways, my morning coffee on the playground or in the parking lot, my after school meetings for Gallery 111.
I missed the book fair, the holiday concerts, chatting with Mr. W. It is so good to be back. Back IN School: Three words that sit just right in my mind. And what a great year it is going to be: the last year in our old school. Next year at this time we’ll all be anticipating attending a temporary school, while they build us a new one. While we are quite excited about that change, we’ve one more year in our old school, so let’s make it the best year possible.

Anyone else interested should contact me at rcsteinmeyer@msn.com or in the hallways)

Our first meeting will be held on September 20th at 5:00 PM in either the auditorium or the science room, depending on the turnout. Agenda items will include our Fall Ball Fundraiser, Reporter elections, and plans for the year, funding requests, membership drive, etc. . . .

Save the Date: November 19th, 2005, THE FALL BALL: Skinner’s newest fundraiser concept. A dress up event complete with cocktails, dinner, and dancing. The event will be held at Rush St. Luke’s Hospital in the Doctor’s Dining Room. This will be an event where parents, grandparents, and friends of Skinner can mingle, schmooze, dance and dine with your favorite faculty, staff, and administrators. We are looking for volunteers to make this event happen. This will be an elegant evening out without your children. And what can be better than that?

Other announcements: The Forum Membership drive will begin on the first day of school and end on the last day of September. To be a voting member of Forum you must be current in the payment of your annual dues as per Article III Section B of the Forum Bylaws. The annual dues are $10.00 and are tax deductible, as are any donations to the Forum, as the Skinner Forum is a registered 501c3. The classroom that has the largest percentage of parents signed up for Forum will win a party to be paid for by the Forum.

The Winter Dreams Catalog Sales hosted by America’s Lemonade Stand will not be taking place this year. We’ve seen a large drop off in return in the past two years and decided to concentrate our efforts on other fund raising options.

Forum will again be sponsoring the Restructured Days Activities this year.
